Parent led Governance is key to a modern education system. With trustees having their powers stripped away, merging the advocacy roles of trustees and parent advisory bodies is essential and necessary. By combining efforts within School Councils, Parent Involvement Committees (PICs), and Special Education Advisory Committees (SEAC), we can empower parents to unify their voices for their children. This collaborative approach will strengthen relationships and create a united front focused on student success. A unified relationship means every child receives the support and representation they deserve!

Let’s be brave and tackle bullying head-on by implementing a comprehensive framework that combines early detection, immediate parent notifications, and the power of AI. By using advanced monitoring tools, we can identify potential bullying behaviors before they escalate. Real-time alerts will keep parents informed, while automated post-incident surveys provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of school responses. This bold approach places the onus on schools to predict, react, and isolate aggressors swiftly, ensuring a safer and more supportive environment for all students.

A recent audit by the Auditor General of Ontario has uncovered alarming gaps in Ontario's special education system, highlighting the urgent need for action as more children are being identified for support. Trustees must implement the recommendations of this report as UCDSB was one of three boards revealing severe gaps in support by failing to apply existing legislative policies, despite receiving millions in funding to address the needs of those students and families. It is crucial for UCDSB to prioritize these recommendations to ensure all students receive the support they need

Student achievement must remain the central priority for UCDSB, especially as grades improve yet still fall below the provincial average in math and literacy. There is a critical need to return to basics, emphasizing less virtual learning and more textbooks and time-tested teaching principles. Key strategies include a structured curriculum that focuses on core subjects, teacher-centered instruction with direct teaching and regular assessments, and maintaining high expectations through consistent homework and practice. By concentrating on these foundational elements, UCDSB can create a more effective learning environment that supports all students in achieving academic success.
